The Selection Committee of Nikon Salon established the Miki Jun Award in 1999 in order to raise the profile of Juna21's photo exhibition and attract more young talent. The Inspiration Awards were added in 2003 as a continuation of that idea. These awards are given to the most creative and remarkable works exhibited during Nikon Salon Juna21's annual calendar (from October to September). The award is named after the late Mr. Jun Miki, one of Japan's pioneers in photojournalism. Juna21 photo exhibitions began in 1998 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Ginza Nikon Salon by providing a free exhibition space to support aspiring photographers under 30 years old. The age limit was raised to 35 in 2002. Each year, new ideas, techniques and advancements enter into the world of photography, further diversifying an already fascinating medium. The younger generation embraces these changes better than anyone. Therefore, Juna21 has made it their duty to support them by offering the use of its gallery as a hub for their creative endeavors. |
