This image was captured at a cultural event in Berending Village, the Gambia, West Africa. The atmosphere is charged with the manic beating of drums and percussion as preparations begin. Many of these children have seen travelers from different cultures, but they are always adults. Few have seen travelers as young as this little girl. I take some pictures and show a few of them the digital preview. I have never seen such an extraordinary reaction. The crowd turns frenzied and within seconds there are children coming out of nowhere.
