| Step2. |
Slide an adapter into the scanner and insert film.
If you are using the SA-21, SA-30, or IA-20 (S), the "Purebyuu" (Preview and "Sukyan"
(Scan) buttons will be grayed out and disabled when no film is in place.
The buttons will become active when film is inserted.
The Preview and Scan buttons are always available when the MA-20 (S) and SF-200 (S) are in place.

Select the film type from the media type menu.

If you are using the SA-21, SA-30, or IA-20 (S),
click the thumbnail drawer tab to open the thumbnail drawer.
If you are using the MA-20 (S) or SF-200 (S), proceed to Step 6.

| Step5. |
By default, frame numbers will be displayed in the thumbnail drawer.
To view small "thumbnail" previews of all frames, click the "Show Thumbnails" button.

If you are using the MA-20 (S) or SF-200 (S), click the Preview button.
If you are using the SA-21, SA-30, or IA-20, select one frame from the thumbnail drawer and click Preview.
A preview scan will be performed and the resulting image displayed in the "Before" and "After" tabs.

| Step7. |
Next, specify the size at which the image will be output after scanning.
Open the "Sukyan saizu" ("Scan size") tool-palette by clicking the triangle (
) at the top left corner of the palette title bar.
Choose what will be given priority in determining output size by selecting one of
of "Kuroppu wo yuusen" ("Keep this crop"),
"Syuturyoku saizu wo yuusen" ("Keep this output size"), or "Fairu saizu wo yuusen"
("Keep this file size).

| Step8. |
In this example, we will select "Keep this output size" and adjust settings to output
the image at the size of a standard Japanese postcard.
Choose "Syuturyoku saizu wo yuusen" and select centimeters (cm) or millimeters (mm) as the units for
output size.

Enter the values for a Japanese postcard (100 mm by 148 mm) in the Width and Height text boxes.

| Step10. |
Enter the target resolution for your printer in the "Syuturyoku kaizoudo"
("Output resolution") textbox.
If you are using an inkjet printer with a resolution of 360, 720, or 1,440 dpi,
you can obtain satisfactory results with a resolution of 240 pixels per inch
(the resolution given in the printer specifications is not required when printing full color images).
In this example, we will assume that the image is destined for output on an inkjet printer,
and enter a resolution of 240 in the "Syuturyoku kaizoudo" text box.

| Step11. |
Open the "Reiauto tuuru" ("Layout Tools") tool-palette by clicking the triangle (
) at the top left corner of the palette title bar.

| Step12. |
After confirming that the crop tool is selected in the "Layout Tools" palette,
drag the mouse over the image in the preview area to choose a crop,
or in other words the portion of the image that will be scanned.

| Step13. |
Click the Scan button to begin the scan.

During the scan, a progress window will be displayed showing the operation being performed.
To abort the operation currently in progress, click the "Kyanseru" (Cancel) button.
To display the operations remaining to be performed, click the triangle (
) under the progress meter.
Click the "Zyoutai" ("Status") tab to view a list of the operations remaining to be performed.
To cancel an operation, select it and click the
icon.
To view completed operations, click the "Rogu" ("Log") tab.
Use the Log tab to check whether the scan has been completed successfully,
or to see what operations have already been performed.

| Step14. |
Once the scan is complete, close the scan window by clicking the close box at its upper left corner.
The scanned image will be shown in an image window.

| Step15. |
Save the scanned image.
Open the "Fairu" (File) menu and select "Namae wo tukete hozon" (Save As).
The Save As dialog will appear.

uEnter a filename for the image in the "Fairu-mei" ("Filename") text box.
Select a location for the file from the "Hozon suru basyo" ("Save in") pop-up menu,
then choose the file type from the five choices available in the "Fairu no syurui" ("File type") menu.
If you choose JPEG, you can select the compression ratio from the "JPEG ayssyuku" (JPEG compression) menu.
For the purposes of illustration, we will assume that the file type selected is TIFF.

| Step17. |
Click the "Hozon" (Save) button to save the image.

To print the image, select "Insatu" (Print) from the "Fairu" (File)
menu in the menu bar.

The print dialog will be displayed.
Click the "Settei" (Properties) button to display the properties for your printer.
After selecting a paper size and orientation and adjusting other settings as desired, click OK.

This closes the properties dialog. Click OK to begin printing.
