Q.No.4595: Nikon Transfer is not automatically launched and no message is displayed with the Macintosh version of Nikon View 5 or Nikon View 6.
Ans : Verify that your camera is being recognized by the computer.

Confirming camera recognition
After connecting your camera to the computer, turn the camera on.
If the camera is properly recognized, an icon labeled NoName, EXXXX (camera name) or Nikon will be displayed.

Is the camera being recognized?
Mac OS X
Open About This Mac from the Apple menu. Click the More Infoc button.
Open the Devices and Volumes panel and verify whether your Nikon device is listed under USB Information.

When the camera is not recognized, check the following.
1. Is the USB cable firmly connected to both the camera and computer USB ports?
2. Is the camera recognized if you connect the USB cable to a different port on the computer?
3. Are you experiencing similar recognition problems with other USB devices?
4. On camera models that allow you to set the USB transfer method, is the transfer method set to Mass Storage?
5. Is a fully-charged battery inserted in the camera?
If you have confirmed proper operation with the questions above and the camera is still not recognized, please have your camera and USB cable checked at an authorized Nikon service station.

When the camera is properly recognized, check the following.
1. Is Nikon View installed on your computer?
2. Is a CompactFlash card inserted in the camera?
3. Launch Nikon View and verify the Preferences settings.
Is Disable auto launch selected in the Auto launch panel of the Preferences dialog?
If so, select Auto launch when connected to a camera or a card instead.
4. Is the USB cable firmly connected to the USB ports on both the camera and the computer.
Disconnect and reconnect both ends of the cable once again just to be sure.
5. If you're operating under Mac OS X, verify Image Capture settings.
- Mac OS X versions 10.1.2-10.1.5
Select Applications from the Finder's Go menu. Find and double-click on the Image Capture icon. Set an auto processing command and a hotplug operation command to off.
- Mac OS X version 10.2 and later
Select Applications from the Finder's Go menu. Find and double-click on the Image Capture icon. Select Preferences from the Image Capture menu. Select No application for the When a camera is connected, open: option under Camera Preferences.
