Q.No.4261: What Scene Modes are available? What are the settings for each scene?
Ans : These are special modes that offer automatic adjustment to the most appropriate settings, based on prevailing shooting conditions.
Set the Mode dial to SCENE, select one of 15 Scene Modes from the menu on the LCD Monitor, and shoot.

The 15 scenes available are as follows:

- Portrait
Capture a soft portrait of a subject standing out against a beautifully defocused background. (Degree of defocusing depends on brightness.)
- Party/Indoor
Take an atmospheric indoor party photo in which both a main subject and background have a balanced exposure. (Camera must be held steadily)
- Night Portrait
Capture a night scene photo with a subject under natural exposure against an illuminated background. (Camera must be held steadily)
- Beach/Snow
Capture a subject clearly and brightly against a background of snow or a sunlit body of water.
- Landscape
Take scenes at a distance with excellent color contrast and clarity
- Sunset
Capture a beautiful sunset in all its splendor.
- Night Landscape
Capture stunning nighttime scenes using a slow shutter speed, without using a Speedlight. (Set the camera on a steady surface, or use a tripod.)
- Museum
Use for taking pictures in indoor locations such as museums where the use of a flash is prohibited. (Note: In some museums and exhibitions, it is prohibited to take pictures, even without flash. Be sure to obtain permission before taking any pictures.)
- Fireworks Show
Users can at last capture the true color and excitement of a fireworks display. (Steadiness is essential. We recommend using a tripod)
- Close Up
This mode makes detailed subjects such as flowers and insects stand out from the background in stunning color.
- Copy
This mode is convenient when shooting text or drawings on white material such as paper or whiteboard.
- Back Light
The Speedlight fires to brighten a backlit subject that would otherwise come out dark if no flash was used.
- Panorama Assist
Lets you take several side-by-side images, all at the same exposure and white balance setting.
One third of the previously captured image will be shown on the LCD monitor and overlap in order to help shooting the next image.
- Sports
Action images will be vividly captured by using fast shutter speeds.
Take a dynamic sports shot while the subject is moving quickly.
- Dawn/Dusk
Captures the beautiful low light conditions seen before sunrise or after sunset.
Speedlight will be automatically disabled.

Please note: In Scene Modes, the Noise Reduction Mode is automatically activated when the shutter speed is slower than 1/4 sec.
When this function is on, the time required to save a picture to the CF card is approximately doubled.
