Applicable model(s) COOLPIX SQ

Q.No.4190: What is the Noise Reduction Mode utilized by the Scene Mode's Night Landscape mode, Night Portrait mode and Dusk/Dawn mode?
Ans : Because of the characteristics of the CCD, when the camera is set for long time exposure, noise will appear (in the form of randomly spaced, brightly colored pixels).
To reduce this, a special process is applied when shooting in exposures longer than 1/4 sec.
When this function is used, it takes twice the normal amount of time from the moment the shutter is released to when the data is recorded into the CF card.
Noise Reduction Mode functions automatically in these modes, and cannot be manually set for other shooting modes.
