The COOLPIX5700's RAW data is recorded in NEF.
When corrections are made to JPEG and TIFF files, quality is adversely affected. However, with NEF, users can make adjustments without affecting the original image because such changes are only made to the file's information set. Even when users save NEF data again after adjusting images with Capture 3, all corrections and adjustments are preserved in the file's information set. This allows users to change the information set as many times as they like. Furthermore, JPEG and TIFF files can be saved as NEF files. This ability to go back to the original data is what distinguishes NEF from other simple RAW data formats. |
