Applicable model(s) D1, D1X, D1H, D100

Q.No.3011: What are the main differences between Nikon Capture 3 and Nikon Capture 2?
Ans ¥ New camera models
Nikon Capture 3 Camera Control now supports the D100 digital camera in addition to other D1-series digital cameras.
However, the D100 is not supported by Nikon Capture 3 Camera Control when used with a Macintosh computer.
In addition, when using any D1-series digital camera with a Macintosh computer, Mac OS X version 10.1.5 or later is required.
¥ Image correction functions
A Saturation Compensation function has been added to Advanced RAW settings.
Using this function, saturation can be reduced, especially in highlight and shadow areas.
In addition, a setting of Mode III (sRGB) (a mode optimized for sRGB and especially useful for the best reproduction of colors when capturing such photos as scenery images) is now possible from the Color Mode: setting.
These functions apply only to RAW images.
A Noise Reduction function has been added.
Color Noise Reduction corrects the "graininess" of images captured at high sensitivity settings, while Edge Noise Reduction reduces the amount of noise produced in subject edges.
Noise reduction is supported in RAW, TIFF, and JPEG images.
¥ Printing function
Image can now be output to a printer from Nikon Capture 3 Editor.
¥ Image file format which can be opened
Images captured with the D1-series, D100, and COOLPIX-series digital cameras can now be opened.
Even images saved with an older version of Nikon Capture, or Nikon Capture 3 Editor in NEF, TIFF (RGB), or JPEG format can now be opened.
¥ Supported OS
Mac OS X is now supported.
(However, under Mac OS, the D100 digital camera cannot be used with Nikon Capture 3 )
¥ Other
When used with Nikon View 5, it is now possible to display a view of thumbnails of images which have been transferred to a computer's hard disk from the camera's CF card.

[ [Functions and OS not supported ]
¥ There is no longer a "Camera Image Window."
Images transferred to the computer using Nikon Capture 3 Camera Control can be displayed using Nikon View 5's Nikon Browser or Nikon Viewer.
¥ RAW images captured with the D1X and D1H cannot be changed to a Color Mode of "D1 Mode."
¥ Images cannot be saved in BMP or PICT format.
¥ Use with Mac OS 8.6 is not supported.
