Q.No.2012: How do I use Cumulus?
Ans : Cumulus is image database software.
Instead of managing image files directly, it collects information about images in a file called a "catalog."
This allows you to view photo information and thumbnail displays of images.

The basic steps involved in using Cumulus are:
1. Install Nikon View 4, Cumulus 5.0, and the Cumulus filter for Nikon digital cameras.
2. Images can be registered in a Cumulus catalog as they are being transferred to the computer using Nikon View 4.
Start Nikon View 4 by connecting the camera to the computer or inserting the camera memory card in a card reader or card slot.
3. Click the Preferences button and open the Database tab.
4. Check Register in image database.
5. If prompted to select image database software, click OK.
Click the Change... button in the "Select image database software" panel and select "C:\Program Files\Canto\Cumulus S5.0.9\Cumulus.exe".
6. If prompted to select a catalog file, click OK.
Click the Change... button in the "Select catalog file" panel and create a new catalog file in an easy-to-find location, such as "My Documents," or select an existing catalog, if available.
7. Click OK to close the Preferences dialog (if Cumulus has started, hiding Nikon View 4, close the Preferences dialog after bringing Nikon View 4 to the top).
You are now ready to store information about images in the catalog.
8. Click the Transfer button to copy images to your computer.
Cumulus will start automatically during transfer.
Information about the transferred images will be cataloged, and thumbnails of the images will be displayed.
9. After transfer and cataloging are complete, adjust the Cumulus filter for Nikon digital cameras as described in the manual.

This completes all the adjustments to settings needed to catalog images in Cumulus.
Once images have been cataloged, you can:
E View information about the images: select Information from the Asset menu.
E Open selected images in another application: select the images and choose Open With from the Asset menu.
E Add images to the catalog: select Catalog Assets from the Catalog menu.
E View a slide show: select Slide Show from the Collection menu.
