| Q.No.1943: | What is "scene" mode? What choices are available? |
| Ans : | "Scene" mode is a special auto mode that ensures images and camera operation suited to limited
shooting conditions, or scenes.
The user turns the mode dial to SCENE, chooses a scene from a menu, and then takes a photograph. The following twelve scenes are available: |
| ¥ | Portrait mode
Main subject stands out clearly while background details are softened, lending the composition a sense of depth (the degree to which background details are softened depends on the amount of light available). |
| ¥ | Party/Indoor
Use for atmospheric shots that include details of the background behind the main subject, for example for capturing candlelight or other background lighting effectively at parties or in similar settings. Caution is required to prevent blurring caused by camera shake. |
| ¥ | Night Portrait
Use when taking portraits against a backdrop of night-time scenery to produce photographs that do not obliterate background details, but instead provide a natural balance between the main subject and the background. Caution is required to prevent blurring caused by camera shake. |
| ¥ | Beach/Snow
Vividly captures the brightness of sunlit oceans, lakes, sandy beaches, and snowfields. |
| ¥ | Landscape
Use for vivid landscape photos that enhance outlines, colors, and contrast in such subjects as forests and skyscapes. |
| ¥ | Sunset
Captures the beautiful reds in sunsets or sunrises exactly as you see them. |
| ¥ | Night Landscape
A slow shutter speed is used to produce stunning night landscapes. Use a tripod to steady the camera (recommended) or place it on a flat, level surface such as a wall or table. Unlike "Night Portrait," the flash will not fire in this mode. |
| ¥ | Museum
Use in museums and art galleries where use of a flash is prohibited, or in other settings in which you do not want the flash to fire. The COOLPIX885 is the first Nikon digital camera to incorporate this option. Note that some museums, art galleries, and other institutions may prohibit photographs altogether. Be sure to obtain permission before taking photographs. |
| ¥ | Fireworks Show
Slow shutter speeds are used to capture the expanding burst of light from a firework. Use a tripod to prevent blurring caused by camera shake. |
| ¥ | Close Up
Use to capture vivid colors in close-up shots of flowers, insects, and other small objects. |
| ¥ | Copy
Provides clear pictures of text or drawings on a white board, business card, or other printed matter. |
| ¥ | Backlight
Use to illuminate backlit subjects whose features are in shadow. In scene mode, noise reduction will turn on automatically at shutter speeds of 1/4 second or slower. The time required to record photographs more than doubles when noise reduction is in effect. |
