Q.No.527: The lens makes noise continuously while the camera is on.
Ans : By default, the autofocus mode (AF MODE) is set to continuous autofocus (C-AF).
In this mode, the camera adjusts focus continually while the monitor is on, rather than focusing only when the shutter-release button is pressed half way.
The continual movement of the lens produces noise and vibration, but this does not indicate a malfunction.

If you find the noise produced by the lens distracting, we recommend that you use single autofocus, in which the camera only focuses when the shutter-release button is pressed half way.
To select single autofocus:


COOLPIX 885
¥ Turn the mode dial to CSM, Auto-Focus Mode > Single AF

COOLPIX 950, COOLPIX 800
¥ Turn the mode dial to M-REC, press the MENU button, and select SET-UP > LCD ON/OFF > ON&S-AF

COOLPIX 990
¥ Turn the mode dial to M-REC, press the MENU button, and select FOCUS (FOCUS OPTIONS) > Auto Focus Mode > Single AF

COOLPIX 880
¥ Turn the mode dial to P, A, M, or CSM, press the MENU button, and select FOCUS (FOCUS OPTIONS) > Auto-Focus Mode > Single AF
