The built-in flash doesn't fire (the flash is set to "Flash Cancel" [off]). |

The built-in flash will automatically be set to "Flash Cancel" when any of the following settings are in effect: |
| 1. |
Infinity: If the infinity icon (a mountain symbol) appears in the control panel, set the focus mode to autofocus. |
| 2. |
Continuous: If any setting other than "Single" has been chosen as the "Continuous" setting
for M-REC mode (or, in the case of the COOLPIX 880, in PoAoM or CSM modes), set the camera to "Single." |
| 3. |
BSS (Best-Shot Selection): If BSS has been set to "ON" in M-REC mode
(or, in the case of the COOLPIX 880, in PoAoM or CSM modes), turn BSS off. |
| 4. |
Wide Adapter, Telephoto (Telefoto), or Fisheye (Fisheye1, Fisheye2):
If any of these options has been selected as the "Lens" setting for M-REC mode
(or, in the case of the COOLPIX 880, PoAoM or CSM modes), set the "Lens" option to "Normal." |
| 5. |
AE-LOCK: If AE-LOCK has been set to "ON" in M-REC mode
(or, in the case of the COOLPIX 880, in PoAoM or CSM modes), turn AE-LOCK off. |

The "INT FLASH OFF" item in the "CONTROLS" sub-menu is checked (COOLPIX 950 only):
If the "INT FLASH OFF" item is checked in the "CONTROLS" sub-menu under "SET UP" in the M-REC "SHOOTING" menu,
remove the check. |

"Int Flash Off" is selected for "Speedlight Cntrl" in the "Speedlight Opt" sub-menu
(COOLPIX 990 only): If "Int Flash Off" is selected for "Speedlight Cntrl" in the "Speedlight Opt" sub-menu
of the M-REC "SHOOTING" menu, select "Int & Ext Active" instead. |

SCENE mode (COOLPIX 880 only): If the option currently selected in the SCENE-mode menu is "Copy,"
change the flash mode.
If "Landscape," "Sunset," "Night Landscape," "Fireworks Show," or "Close Up" is selected, set the camera to AUTO,
P, A, M, or CSM mode. |

If the flash still does not fire after you have made the adjustments described above,
this may indicate a camera malfunction.
