The Ina Nobuo Award
Established in 1976, the Ina Nobuo Award was created by Nikon Salon as a means of further contributing to photographic culture. With the award's introduction, Nikon Salon offered not only a free exhibition space for aspiring talent, but also a way of recognizing one photographer each year whose work was judged to be the best of Nikon Salon's annual October-to-September schedule. To celebrate Nikon Salon's 20th anniversary in 1995, ¥1,000,000 in prize money was added to the trophy, certificate and Nikon products traditionally given to each year's winner. The award is named after photography critic and honorary director of Nikon Salon from 1968 to 1978, Ina Nobuo (1898-1978), for his immense contribution to Japanese photography.
